By now, you know how difficult it is to reach anyone at PennDOT…even for simple questions beyond requesting your driving record. I know my phones ring daily with frustrated drivers who get nowhere or no one. We have a few tips to help you get through the muck and get some level of contact. As always, we don’t recommend trusting in a phone call, so always do your own research before taking action based on advice over the phone. That leads us to the best option first;

Don’t call—go online! You can contact PennDOT through their online contact page: http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/contact_us/dlemail.jsp?navigation=true. The best part is that you will have a written record of your contact with PennDOT that you can use if things don’t work out as expected. Keeping a record of your communications is key.
If the online channel is uncomfortable, you can always write to PennDOT here: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation 1101 South Front Street Harrisburg, PA 17104. You will receive a written reply to your request. You can expect PennDOT to take some time to review and respond to your mailed inquiry. This option can take even longer if you need to provide additional details to the Department.
If you must call, the phone number for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is 1-800-932-4600. This will lead to an automated system that will route you to the proper department. Our experience is you will end up with a call center employee who can offer limited assistance if you get through to anyone. More often you will get a message that they are too busy and ask you to try again later.
Phone TIP: Try calling in the early hours or right after lunch in the middle of the week.
Phone Tip 2: Write down the name and department of the person you’re talking to for accountability.
If you get really stuck, you’ve been fed bad information, or you can’t get PennDOT to listen…give your state representative a call. https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/ – They typically have someone in their office who can try to get you answers and cut through the PennDOT breakdown.
